Advanced Farming

With AED 498 Million being contributed to Dubai's GDP by Agricultural Activities in 2019, the sector as a whole is growing in its importance. From Food Security to Self-sustainability, Dubai has driven investment into Advanced Farming with developments including vertical farming and was ranked 8th on Agricultural Productivity on IMD's World Competitiveness Yearbook 2018.

Despite problems due to the scarcity of water resources, arable land, soil salinity and difficult environmental conditions, Dubai now boasts one of the most technologically advanced agriculture industries in the world. Technology has proven to be the solution to the Emirate's and Country's lack of fertile land and continues to drive down the price of agricultural produce, with the country as a whole ranked 4th on Affordability of Food based on EIU's Global Food Security Index.

Food Industry

Amongst the priority sectors of the Dubai Industrial Strategy 2030, Dubai’s food industry is one of the fastest growing in the region.

Its residents and citizens enjoy access to over 11,800 restaurants and cafes from almost all of the major international cuisines, and that number is only forecasted to grow.

Nationally, production of food products and the food industry makes up roughly 47% of the national sector of non-resource industry. From the mineral-rich waters sourced locally by Masafi to the hundreds of bakeries and cafes scattered across the city, Dubai’s food industry is blossoming.
