Under the UAE’s federal constitution, which allows each emirate to have its own judicial authority, Dubai has retained its independent courts with a robust and dynamic legal and regulatory framework, which has significantly underpinned the economic and cultural growth of the Emirate over the years.

The Dubai Courts comprise three levels of courts: Court of First Instance, Court of Appeal, and Court of Cassation. The Court of First Instance is for the first degree of litigation. It heads all lawsuits pertaining to commercial, administrative, civil, personal, labor, punitive, and real estate cases.

The second degree of litigation is the Court of Appeal, which handles all lawsuits referred by the Court of First Instance when the case’s parties don’t reach an agreement from the first degree.

The Court of Cassation in Dubai is the highest body and appellate court in the city’s judicial system. This Court’s departments comprise of at least one president and 5 judges. They handle appeals raised to them from punitive cases, as well as personal, labor, civil, real estate, and commercial lawsuits.

Dubai Courts also offer amicable settlement services in commercial, civil, and real-estate conflicts, in addition to registering as will services and family reform issues.

Dubai Courts only use Arabic for all its processes while providing instant translation services from 21 languages to Arabic and vice-versa, including the most used languages in Dubai: English, Chinese, Urdu, and Russian.

In line with the digital transformation of the city, most of Dubai Courts’ services are accessible online, with no need to visit the Courts in person.
